The Xiaomi 12 is coming soon and the CEO of the company confirmed that it will be the first smartphone to be announced that will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset (before it was expected to be named Snapdragon 898).
Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, appeared in a video during Qualcomm's Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021, where he confirmed the name of the phone and the fact that it will have the new chipset.
Jun also said the phone "will be available soon". It did not confirm a specific release date for the Xiaomi 12, but a recent leak indicated that the company will unveil its new phone in China on December 16.
In the past, Xiaomi introduced its top phones first in China and then brought them to other markets. We expect that something like this will happen this time as well, although it has not been confirmed yet.
This is the first phone maker to confirm that it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in its next flagship. And the Motorola confirmed that its upcoming flagship will feature this chipset.
We expect to see more manufacturers confirm this in the coming days and weeks.
Xiaomi has previously confirmed that it will reject the Mi brand from its future smartphones, so the company has just chosen to name this device as Xiaomi 12 to improve the structure of the name.
