Η Google try a more affordable premium subscription plan for YouTube that offers ad-free viewing without other YouTube Premium features, such as offline downloads or background playback. The new plan "Premium Lite”Was detected by a user at ResetEra and YouTube later confirmed the trial offer in a statement to The Verge. Premium Lite is currently being tested in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
"At Nordics and Benelux (excluding Iceland), we're trying a new offer to give users even more options: Premium Lite costs € 6,99 / month (or local equivalent per month) and includes no-ad videos at YouTube", Said a spokesman for YouTube. In comparison, the existing YouTube Premium program costs around € 11,99 per month in Europe.
Premium Lite includes ad-free display on the main application YouTube, iOS, Android, smart TVs and game consoles, and the YouTube Kids app. However, it does not include any YouTube Music benefits such as ad-free listening and other Premium features, such as background playback (when you want to switch to another app while still listening to YouTube video), or offline downloads.
If you are one of those people who can not stand the number of ads on YouTube, but are not very interested in other features of Premium, such as offline downloads, Premium Lite sounds like a tempting proposition. But at current pricing, it costs about 60 percent of the price of a regular Premium subscription, while offering only about a quarter of its benefits.
YouTube says that the current subscription is in an experimental phase however and that it is considering developing more designs based on audience feedback.
