Lately, the Sony has seen a significant increase in sales of its latest console, PlayStation 5 (PS5). Although this should be considered good news, it also creates some problems. According to a report by Bloomberg, the Japanese company warned analysts that deficiencies will be observed in the PS5 by 2022.
Sony sold 7,8 million consoles by March 31 and expects to sell about 14,8 million by the end of this fiscal year. Many assume that high demand would mean an increase in production and sales, but it exists a major problem that plagues many technology companies and beyond. Unfortunately, Sony (and other companies) cannot respond effectively to the growing demand due to global scarcity chips and other key components. What is worse, however, is that all these semiconductor-dependent companies, they cannot predict when the situation will improve.
"I do not think demand will fall this year, even if we get a lot more devices and produce many more PlayStation 5 consoles next year. our supply could not meet the demand", Seems to have stated the Sony CFO, Hiroki totoki, to analysts.
Sony is not the only manufacturer of gaming consoles facing problems with shortages on the PS5 and elsewhere. THE Nintendo also warned of shortages of components that could affect production. For Sony, things are bad because the PS5 is a new console and users are still very excited, which is why the demand is so high. However, due to these shortcomings, the company can not take full advantage of the success of the console.
