According to a Google announcement, the company intends to end the Google Shopping application on devices iOS and Android in the coming weeks.
Those users who wish, can use the web version of the application.
XDA Developers was the first to discover on Thursday the indications of the upcoming removal of the application from the code in the latest version of Google Shopping, which allows users to shop in thousands of stores and buy things using their Google accounts.
The news was later confirmed by 9to5Google, which stated that the application is going to stop working, but will continue to be used until June. However, this does not mean that Google Shopping will be completely withdrawn. The web version and the Shopping tab in Google Search will continue to exist.
«In the coming weeks, we will no longer support the Shopping appSaid a Google spokesperson at 9to5Google. «All functions offered by the application to users are available in the Purchases tab. We will continue to create features in the Shopping tab and other Google services, including the Google app, that will make it easier for users to find and buy the products they like.»
Some users, who upgraded to version 59 of the Google Shopping app, received a message informing them that the app was not available for a few days.
«The app is not currently available, but you can continue shopping at shopping.google.com", The message states.
Despite removing the app from iOS and Android, users will not miss the features it offers, since the web version of the application is almost the same.
Google has stopped other popular applications in the past, such as Hangouts, leaving many meteoric users unaware of what would be the best alternative to this feature.
