The Ministry of Commerce of USA added to the so-called Entity List seven Chinese companies and organizations operating in its field supercomputing. According to the ministry, these entities allegedly support China's military activities.
The blacklisted organizations and companies include the Shanghai High-Performance Integrated Circuit Design Center, Sunway Microelectronics, Tianjin Phytium Information Technology, and the National Supercomputing Centers in Jinan, Shenzhen, WuXi, and Zhengzhou.
Companies listed on the Entity List may not purchase spare parts or components from US companies without government approval.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the above organizations deal with manufacture of supercomputers used as part of China 's military activities, as well as for the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction.
"Supercomputing capabilities are vital to the development of many - perhaps almost all - of modern weapons and national security systems, such as nuclear weapons and supersonic weapons. The Commerce Department will use all its means to prevent China from using US technology to support these military efforts.Said Gina Raimondo.
The US has put many Chinese companies on the Entity List. The government argues that this is mainly done for national security reasons. One of the companies that has been highly discussed due to its addition to the list, is Huawei. The Chinese smartphone maker is on the list for about two years.
Last year, the US added Chinese chip manufacturer SMIC, The drone company DJI Technology and a number of other technology companies based in China.

In addition to the Entity List, the US government has also imposed other restrictions on Chinese technology companies, classifying them as national security threats ή Chinese military communist companies.
