How to update to Ubuntu 21.04 from earlier versions

Updating to Ubuntu 21.04 is fairly simple.

From the application menu, find and open the application Software and updates.

Go to the section updates and in the drop-down menu Notify me of updates to Ubuntu, select the option For any new version and close the application.

Open the terminal application and type the following command

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

Authenticate by entering your password and type y and press enter on the terminal if prompted.

Wait for the entire update process to complete.

Now, type the command

update-manager -d

By doing this, you are telling Ubuntu to look for a development version, namely Ubuntu 21.04 in this case.

After the software update check is completed, a message will appear stating that the software is up to date. Ubuntu 20.10 is now available

Click on upgrade. The process can take 30-45 minutes, depending on the speed of your internet.

Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to restart the computer and the next thing you will see is the unusually beautiful default Hirsute Hippo wallpaper.
