Ukraine on February 22 indicted anonymously networks Russia, for massive cyber-attacks targeting Ukrainian defense and defense safety. Ukrainian officials have not yet released any information about the cyber-attacks, nor the damage and impact they have caused.
The Council of Ukraine stated in a statement: "Addresses belonging to some Russian traffic networks were found to be the source of these coordinated attacks". However, the Ukrainian authorities have so far not attributed the massive cyber attacks to a specific threat.
According to the news agency Reuters, Kiev has in the past accused the Moscow to orchestrate major cyberattacks, which are said to have been part of a "hybrid war" against Ukraine. Of course, this is a claim that Russia itself denies. However, in a statement, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine did not disclose who believed that it organized the cyber-attacks, nor did it provide information on the impact that these invasions may have had on the Ukrainian cyber security.
According to Security Affairs, the massive cyber-attacks began on February 18. In the context of this malicious activity, the hackers target Ukrainian sites of local institutions, including the Security Service of Ukraine and the Council.
It is noteworthy that the malicious agents attempted to breach the Ukrainian sites, aiming to develop a DDoS bot. Reuters also reported the following: "The Council added that during the cyberattacks, hackers tried to infect vulnerable government web servers with a virus, with the aim of making them part of a botnet used for the so-called DDoS attacks on other resources. "
Russia has been accused of many cyberattacks from time to time. One of the most recent shocking examples is the catastrophic one hack noted in Solarwinds, resulting in a large number of organizations and their services being affected USA.
