DuckDuckGo: The focus on privacy has led to an increase in users

DuckDuckGo is a search engine that generates its search index using DuckDuckBot crawler and through partners like Bing. The search engine does not use it data by Google.

DuckDuckGo stands out from other search engines because, as we said above, it focuses on protecting the privacy of users. It does not track searches to create a user profile or share personal or other data with third party companies and advertisers.

"Each time you search DuckDuckGo, you have a blank search history, as if you had never used the engine before.", Explains DuckDuckGo.

Search engine searches increased by 62% in 2020

Over the past year, DuckDuckGo users have grown significantly. This is largely due to the fact that more and more people are interested and worried about data and how they are used in Internet.

DuckDuckGo stated that the average daily searches in 2020 increased by 62%.

This month, on January 11, 2021, DuckDuckGo received 102.251.307 search queries for the first time.

The engine believes that this increase in users is due to the fact that people have begun to care more about their privacy when using the internet. Every day we hear about data breaches, while it is known that many Companies watch our internet activity. Therefore, users are looking to find solutions that focus on protection privacy to stay as safe as possible.

The search engine also highlighted important news, such as recent data sharing concerns between WhatsApp and Facebook, led to increased searches.

In accordance with StatCounter, DuckDuckGo is done the second most popular search engine on mobile devices at USA, the United Kingdom, California and elsewhere, thanks to this rapid growth.

Of course, η Google is still dominant search engine with a market share of 94% in the US. DuckDuckGo is in second place with 2,25%, followed by Yahoo with 1,94%.
