Η COSMOTE brings first in Greece the future of telecommunications, moving on commercialization of 5G network in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities in Greece, while in certain areas the maximum speeds reach or exceed 1Gbps. Pioneering once again, COSMOTE develops the largest mobile network in Greece to offer its subscribers services first 5th generation, creating new perspectives for the digital development of the country.
The first video call via 5G network in our country took place at the Maximos Palace, between the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of State and Digital Government Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis, during their meeting with the CEO of Telek Group Deuts. As stressed at the meeting, the OTE Group will support the dynamic course of the country in the new digital age, with the technological infrastructure it creates and the ICT projects it implements, while the commitment for its investment plan of 2 billion euros in four years was confirmed, mainly for 5G and FTTH networks. Mr. Höttges congratulated the Prime Minister for the effective response to the crisis caused by the pandemic, the acceleration of the digital transformation of the State, but also the planning of the digital strategy of the country with the "Digital Transformation Book". In this context, the head of Deutsche Telekom for Europe Ms. Dominique Leroy informed about the intention of COSMOTE to cover with 5G highways of the country, a total length of more than 2.000 km, until the end of 2023, as a necessary condition for its implementation. project "Connected highways». The "5G Corridors" included in the "Digital Transformation Book" will allow the automated movement of trucks to and from ports and airports, contributing to the growth of the economy.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated: "The topic of our meeting today has a substantial content, but I believe that it also has a very great symbolic significance, because while it is a step in the digital future of the country, it happens exactly the day after the completion of the auction of frequencies for fifth generation networks. In this way, the state, businesses, citizens gain access to new opportunities that only high technology can offer. We want to turn Greece into a destination from where people will work, retire. And connectivity plays a key role in this overall project. "
Regarding COSMOTE 5G, Mr. Höttges stated: "It simply came to our notice then COSMOTE 5G, Greece is one of the few countries in the world that have a network 5th generation. In the coming years, innovative applications, utilizing 5G, will change many sectors of the economy, as we knew them until today. Our investment in Greece is of strategic importance to us. There are significant growth prospects and it can be an important high-tech hub. We strongly support the vision for the digital transformation of the country through our investments in new generation networks and modern technological infrastructures ".
«The 5G will be the backbone of society and the economy in the future, creating important opportunities in many sectors, such as health, industry, transport, etc. A typical example is the supply chain sector, where 5G will contribute to the implementation of the Trans-European Transport Networks project, which will allow the automatic movement of trucks on all highways in Europe. The launch of 5G in Greece by COSMOTE will contribute to the digital development of the country and to the improvement of Europe's competitiveness in the world marketSaid Dominique Leroy.

Network access COSMOTE 5G have a all COSMOTE subscribers, individuals and companies, at no extra charge and regardless of program (contract, card contract, prepaid). The only condition is to have a 5G device that is certified in the COSMOTE network. Today such devices are Apple iPhone 12 mini, Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi10T Pro, Xiaomi Mi10T, Xiaomi Mi10T Lite, Xiaomi Mi10 Pro, Xiaomi Mi10. In collaboration with the major manufacturers, more and more devices will be gradually certified and will provide access to COSMOTE 5G. The list of certified 5G devices is available at cosmote.gr.
For the commercialization of COSMOTE 5G, COSMOTE utilizes the equipment capabilities 5G installed in its network in cooperation with Ericsson. 5G Base Stations at 3,5 GHz have been licensed and activated (based on the already available spectrum), which allow very high speeds that reach or exceed 1Gbps, in selected parts of Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities. At the same time, the technologically neutral spectrum used by COSMOTE 4G, contributes to the greater population coverage of COSMOTE 5G.
That's it COSMOTE 5G will be extended to even more areas throughout Greece, while mobile Internet speeds and network latency will gradually improve. Population coverage is expected to exceed 50% by the end of 2021. COSMOTE has already reached an agreement with foreign networks for supply 5G roaming to its customers in selected EU countries, while 5G roaming availability will soon be extended to more countries. The full development of the capabilities of the 5G network will be done with the integration of the new frequency spectrum, after the auction of the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT).
5G technology is not just the next generation of wireless communication, but it ushers in an era of high speeds and unlimited possibilities. It is one of the fastest and most reliable technologies we have known to date and in the future it will dramatically change the way we live, work and have fun, as it was designed to meet the daily increasing technological requirements, with features that no other technology had until today. .
In its full development, 5G will enable the provision and management of new interactive and smart services to all connected devices in almost real time. It will be able to serve up to 1.000.000 devices per square kilometer and will allow maximum speeds of up to 10Gbps. The response time (latency) will drop to 1 millisecond with simultaneous communication reliability at 99,999%. 5G will be a lever for the growth of the global economy, with the possibility of application in various sectors such as industry, health, transport, "smart" cities, education, entertainment, etc.
