The network device manufacturer "Belden" came under cyber attack, resulting in the hackers who are behind it to steal archives containing information about employees and associates of the company. Belden is a manufacturer of networking devices based in USA, included routers, firewalls and switches. The company currently employs about 9.000 employees, while in 2019 it recorded revenues of up to 2,5 billion dollars.
In an official statement issued by Belden, it stated that it had recently suffered a cyber attack that allowed hackers to steal corporate data. In addition, the company stated that it has taken decisive action to investigate and deal with the security incident, which includes unauthorized access and copying certain data concerning current and former employees, as well as limited company information about certain business partners. Belden also said in a statement that it had suffered a complex attack from outside the company that had access to a limited number of its file servers.

According to BleepingComputer, the company did not provide further details about the cyber attack, however the phrase "advanced attackIs now commonly used by lawyers to describe a ransomware attack when issuing security disclosure notices.
As of November 2019, many ransomware companies have started stealing unencrypted data from servers files before developing a ransomware. In addition, the threat of publishing stolen files on data leak sites and the loss of data due to encryption are used as a double blackmail strategy to force victims to pay ransom.

Belden has already started alerting those affected by this attack, while offering them free monitoring and support services.
