Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, a service that listens to and recognizes the songs being played around you - on TV, the bar, the cinema and more. Although still a standalone application, Apple has integrated music recognition into the iPhone and iPad. Here's how to add a Shazam button to your device's Control Center.
Add a Shazam button to the iPhone or iPad Control Center
The Shazam button is not placed by default in the iPhone or iPad Control Center. You will need to adjust the Control Center to activate the music recognition button.
Get started by opening the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad. If you can't find it, swipe down to the home screen and use Apple's built-in Spotlight search to find application.
Then scroll down and select "Control Center".
You will now see a list of shortcuts and controls available in the Control Center. Scroll down to the "More Controls" section. Find and press the "+" button next to "Music Recognition".
The Shazam button is now active and will be moved to the "Included Controls" section. Press and hold the three-line button to rearrange it place of the “Music Recognition” button in the Control Center.
Use the Shazam music recognition button on iPhone and iPad
Now that the Shazam button is added to your iPhone or iPad, it's time to use the music recognition feature.
Open Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of your phone or tablet (or dragging up from the bottom of the screen to older ones Appliances). From there, press the (gray) button of Shazam.
Once activated and listens to the song, the Shazam button will light up and start shaking.
When the song is recognized, a banner notification will appear at the top of your screen. Click on the banner to learn more about the song and it artist.
If the song is not recognized after 10 to 15 seconds, a notification will let you know that it could not find the song.
The “Music Recognition” notification will also appear on the lock screen and in the Notification Center, in case you did not see the banner.
You will be taken to the Shazam website after clicking on the "Music Recognition" alert. Here, you can listen to one preview of the song, add it to the Apple Music library, read the lyrics of the song and much more.
