US: Sanctions on Iranian entities for alleged interference in the upcoming elections

The US Treasury Department has issued sanctions against five Iranian entities allegedly trying to influence the November 3 election. According to the ministry, Iranian entities are presented as news outlets organizations or media to spread misinformation and propaganda in the US.

According to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Iranian entities are using false narratives and other misleading material in an attempt to influence the upcoming US election. Mnuchin added that the current American government is committed to ensuring the integrity of the country's electoral system and will continue to offset the efforts of any foreign factor that threatens its electoral processes.

The Iranian entities that are allegedly trying to interfere in the US elections are the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the IRGC-Qods Force (IRGC-QF), the Bayan Rasaneh Gostar Institute (Bayan Gostar), the Islamic Radio and Television Association (IRTVU) and the International Virtual Media Association (IUVM), who have been accused of direct or indirect participation, sponsorship, concealment or complicity in foreign interference in this year's presidential election.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Bayan Gostar, IRTVU and IUVM carried out a number of influential operations aimed at the population. The IUVM also spread conspiracy theories and misinformation about the global pandemic COVID-19. Meanwhile, various IRGC-QF outlets reportedly reinforced false narratives and published content propaganda, such as articles, cartoons and memes, aimed at sowing discord in the American public.

Sanctions have seized the properties of Iranian entities from the United States and barred American citizens from doing business with them. The sanctions follow a series of reports according to which the Iran tries to sow discord ahead of elections, with high-ranking government officials accusing Iran of being behind a "wave" e-mail sent to voters earlier this week. Forging the violent extremist group "Proud Boys", the emails threatened the registered Democratic voters that if they do not vote for him Tramp, will be faced with the consequences. According to ZDNet, the senders claimed to have acquired access throughout the voting infrastructure.

In addition, the Twitter said earlier this month that it had removed about 130 accounts linked to Iran from its platform as they tried to intervene in Trump's public political debate - Biden.
