Steam: How to turn off the filter in conversations

Steam filters out obscenities and defaults by default in both Steam chat and games that support the filter. If you want to turn off the chat filter, you can. You can even add your own personal list of words you want to filter.


This setting is available on the Steam Account Preferences page. To access it, click on name of the account in the upper right corner of the Steam window and select "Store Preferences".

Scroll down to the "Community Content Preferences" section. The options in the "Chat Filtering" section control filter in Steam conversations.

If you want to turn off the filter, select “Do not filter strong profanity or slurs” in the “Language Preferences” section. You can also select "Allow strong profanity, but filter slurs."

The default option is "Filter strong profanity and slurs with" ♥♥♥ "or" *** ".

By default, the "Do not filter text from my Steam Friends" option is enabled. Steam will not filter offensive words sent by your friends in messages. You can deselect this framework if you prefer Steam to apply this filtering to messages of your friends.

In the "Additional Custom Filtered Words" section, you can adaptμόστε fully filter. To make Steam filter any other word If you want, type it in the "Always filter these words" box and click "Add". To make sure that Steam will never filter a particular word, type it in the "Never filter these words" box and click "add".

You can also download them lists as text files by clicking the "Download" button or uploading a list of words from a text file by clicking the "Upload" button.

When you are done, you can simply leave the Preferences page. You do not need to click the "Save" button. Steam will implement them immediately changes you.
