Microsoft has released an update for all supported versions of Windows 10 that dynamically activate the Battery Health Manager option in the BIOS of supported HP business laptops.
HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS battery management feature on specific HP professional laptops that modifies the way a battery is charged to extend its life.
"HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS level setting available on most HP professional laptops designed to optimize battery life by reducing your laptop's battery exposure to key factors, such as continuous charging, which can accelerate battery swelling and chemical aging over time, ”explains HP.
Previously, HP laptop owners had to manually enable Battery Health Manager in the BIOS. With improved charging algorithms, HP now wants this setting to be enabled for all support devices.
To achieve this, HP partnered with Microsoft to release an update to Windows 10 KB4583263 that automatically activates Battery Health Manager and sets it to "Let HP Manage My Battery Health".
"When the possibility was first presented, the customers they had to manually activate HP Battery Health Manager in the recommended “Let HP Manage My Battery Health” setting. As the standards use for business laptops have changed over time, HP has updated the HP Battery Health Manager with new improved charging algorithms. This makes it more effective in reducing the factors that can accelerate its swelling battery and chemical aging. HP is working with Microsoft to deliver an HP solution to enable this regulation on selected HP laptops so you do not have to turn it on manually”Explains HP.
This update is currently available for Windows 10 1809, Windows 10 1903, Windows 10 1909, Windows 10 2004 and Windows 10 20H2 users.
