The original Starship Serial Number 6, or SN6, took off from the SpaceX facility in Boca Chica, Texas. Gradually climbed to 500 feet above Earth, before returning to the ground. The flight test appeared to be identical to the SN5 prototype test on 5 August.
The prototypes are made of stainless steel and represent the first versions of the Starship rocket presented by Message of the company, Elon Musk, last year. The company develops the vessel with the aim of starting cargo and 100 people each time on missions to the Moon and the Mars.
SpaceX is constantly building multiple prototypes simultaneously in the developing one installation of the company in Boca Chica. While the SpaceX Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rocket fleets are partially reusable, Musk's goal is to make the Starship fully reusable, like a commercial airliner, with short recovery times between flights where the only significant cost is the fuel.
The repeated flight test represents the continuation of what Musk said about the development of Starship, as he wrote in Twitter that SpaceX will present prototypes "soon enough to smooth the process launch». Successful back-to-back flights show that the growth of the Starship is accelerating, as the program has suffered many failures in the last year.
Musk also acknowledged Monday that the vessel has many prospects of being able to carry passengers on flights.
«We must first make it work. Automatically deliver satellites and do hundreds of satellite missions before putting people on boardSaid Musk.
He expects the first Starship orbital flight tests not to arrive until 2021, saying SpaceX is in "uncharted territory".
