Cosmote Payments: Electronic payments from OTE

The management of OTE has announced for two years that the development plan of OTE includes the entry in the field of electronic payments, but also of online betting.

The Bank of Greece granted an operating license for an electronic money institution to OTE's subsidiary, "Cosmote Payments-Electronic Money Services SA".

The official publication of the decision in the Government Gazette is expected within the next few days, most likely even by the end of the week. The management of OTE has announced for two years that in OTE development plan is included the entry into the field of electronics payments, but also online betting (in cooperation with Intralot).

Cosmote Payments, which was founded in 2018, is the third licensed electronic money institution after Viva Payment Services SA and “Tora Wallet” controlled by OPAP.

Just a few weeks ago and more specifically during the general assembly, the chairman and CEO of OTE Michalis Tsamaz had argued that the management of the group, although waiting delays due to the pandemic, keeps them unchanged investment raft "For fifth generation networks (5G) and development of fiber optic networks to the home (Fiber to the Home), but also for the new ventures of the group, such as online gaming and electronic payments".
