Recently, Glen Barber, one of the representatives of FreeBSD, announced the 5η and final version of FreeBSD 11. According to him, the new FreeBSD 11.4 comes with quite improved hardware support and software, and is the latest stable 11.x version.

What's new in FreeBSD 11.4?

Although not very well known, FreeBSD is one of the few systems which still support the ZFS file system. In version 11.4, this support has improved considerably, and now functional also supports renaming of ZFS bookmarks. In addition, the new version significantly reduces the latency of synchronous 128KB writes, resulting in 15% -20% better performance.

In addition to improved network, storage and support hardware, the operating system now also supports: D-Link DWM-222 LTE dongle, JMicron JMB582, JMB585 AHCI controllers, and Intel Cannon Lake PCH.

Going further, we reach the new features of the applications. For example, h application camcontrol now supports Accessible Max Address Configuration (AMA) and block description. At the same time, the usbconfig application now contains the command detach_kernel_driver.

How to install FreeBSD 11.4:
