New iPhone SE 2020 released: Is it worth buying?

Apple surprised us by announcing a new iPhone at a different time than the fall for the second time in just a decade. And we really understand why he made that decision. It's the new iPhone SE of 2020.

The popular iPhone SE of its first generation Apple was discontinued in September 2018 and since then fans of small, affordable phones have been asking for a new model to take its place. Finally, they have it - though not so small this time.

In this article we have all the details about the release of the new iPhone SE, the price in the UK and US, specifications, design, new features and more.

Release Date: When will the new iPhone SE be released?

It has already been released! The iPhone SE (2020) was announced at 4 p.m. UK time on April 15, 2020. Pre-orders started at 1 p.m. (or 5 a.m. PDT) on Friday, April 17 and made its appearance in stores on Friday, April 24.

Price: How much does the iPhone SE (2020) cost?

The iPhone SE (2020) starts at 419 399 in the UK and $ XNUMX in the US. See prices in detail:

iPhone SE (2020, 64 GB): $ 419 £ / $ 399

iPhone SE (2020, 128 GB): $ 469 £ / $ 449

iPhone SE (2020, 256 GB): $ 569 £ / $ 549

The new SE replaces the 8 but looks similar in many ways, adding a processor that is two generations younger, but costs £ 60 / £ 50 less in the basic 64 GB version.

IPhone SE Design (2020)

The iPhone SE 2020 takes its design influences from the iPhone 8 (reportedly to fit iPhone 8 cases), so it's not a return to the extremely compact four-inch design of the iPhone SE (2016), nor the square corners of its range. iPad Pro.

There is only one camera on the back and the model holds the Home button - so Touch ID will be the way to enter the phone and not the Face ID.

Specifications and new features

Don't expect specifications and features that will leave you speechless at this price, however it is still a very good purchase as it includes:

  • A13 Bionic Processor
  • RAM 3GB
  • 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB storage
  • 4,7-inch screen (1334 × 750 at 326 ppi), brightness 625 nits, 1400: 1 contrast, True Tone
  • 12Mp (f / 1.8) rear camera with flash, portrait mode, 4K video
  • 7Mp (f / 2.2) front camera, portrait mode
  • IP67 water and dust resistance
  • Its dimensions are 138,4 x 67,3 x 7,3 mm.
  • While its weight reaches 148 grams

Which processor does it have?

What makes the difference in this list of specifications is clearly the A13 Bionic chip, which is a state-of-the-art chip Processor Apple's iPhone 11 and 11 Pro levels.

The A13 is probably Apple's best processor - probably because the iPad Pro 2020 has a chip called the A12Z, which comes from the previous generation but incorporates a dual performance upgrade (successive upgrades from A12 to A12X and from A12X to A12Z) . There will be a faster chip called the A14 when the iPhone 12 is released in the fall of 2020.

Its additional power neural engine of the A13 will allow the seemingly simple camera of the model to produce excellent shots.

How much RAM does it have?

The iPhone SE (2020) has 3 GB of RAM. (Apple does not announce RAM for its phones, but this number became known by someone leak information.)

3 GB is less than those of the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, Pro Max and iPhone XS and XS Max from the previous generation - they all have 4 GB of RAM. The iPhone XR, however, also has 3 GB of Ram.

How fast is it?

It's not as fast as other iPhones with an A13 processor, but given the lower RAM, that's to be expected.

In speed tests with the Geekbench 5 app, the iPhone SE (2020) had an average score of 1.327 on one core and 3.039 on many cores. See how it compares to other new iPhones:

iPhone X: 917 (SC) + 2353 (MC)

iPhone XR: 1110 (SC) + 2734 (MC)

iPhone XS: 1107 (SC) + 2735 (MC)

iPhone SE (2020): 1327 (SC) + 3039 (MC)

iPhone 11: 1288 (SC) + 3338 (MC)

iPhone 11 Pro: 1333 (SC) + 3544 (MC)

Will there be an iPhone SE Max?

We think so, but don't expect it to be released earlier than 2021.

Surprisingly, while the iPhone SE (2020) replaces the 8, there is no corresponding model to replace the 8 Plus, but the SE is only available in one screen size: 4.7 inches.

We can predict that a bigger version will be released in the future, but we still can't know how much bigger. It is also expected to have a different design from the standard SE, with a full layout screen and without Home button. However, it will not face recognition, but there will be a Touch ID sensor on the power button on one side.
