Her love Microsoft Linux is growing day by day, and the latest WSL2 news is proving it. The company is now making some major changes to the Linux kernel, which it adds to Windows. According to one post, Microsoft will convert Windows Update to provide automatic installation and updates not only for Windows but also for its kernel Linux, in a similar way to installing and updating drivers. This method will be implemented in the new update - Windows 10 2004 (20H1).
Embedded Linux within Windows (WSL):
In 2016, Microsoft added WSL to create the GNU / Linux environment directly on Windows 10. It didn't stop there, but it also put in the environment and most command line tools, some utilities and applications that run without the need for virtualization.
However, WSL functions as a Linux interface and not as a functional one. Therefore, users could only perform some limited actions on it. Because of this, a new one was created program, which was named WSL2. This includes a new Linux kernel written by Microsoft. So WSL2 is a complete Linux kernel and brings most of the required enhancements to Linux which is built into Windows.
Η Microsoft has already removed the Linux kernel from the distribution of Windows 10. The goal is to provide automatic installation and updates of WSL2 without having to reinstall Windows.
How to install and update WSL automatically?
You can install its updates core of Linux very easily, just by clicking on the "Check for Updates" button in Settings Windows. However, Microsoft says you should install the kernel manually in the original version of Windows 10 2004 (and in Insider distributions) using Command Prompt. Automatic installation and maintenance capabilities will be added later, in a few months.
