ESET has announced that it is participating as a founding member of the "App Defense Alliance" to protect the Google Play Store. The security hub will offer detection capabilities and improved ecosystem security technology Android, while at the same time undertaking research to make it safer Google Play Store.
ESET is one of the first members of the alliance, active since 6 November 2019.
This unprecedented alliance comes to complement ESET's existing synergies with Google, such as working with Chronicle, part of Google Cloud, and integrating ESET into Google Chrome Cleanup, a security tool that alerts Google users Chrome for potential threats.
Tony Anscombe, ESET's Global Security Evangelist and Industry Ambassador said:
Until recently, attempts to identify security vulnerabilities were ex post. We are now talking about a comprehensive, preventive campaign to protect billions of consumers and businesses from the root of the problem.
ESET is a pioneer in the field of threat research. In partnership with Google, ESET and other members of the App Defense Alliance will be able to provide Google with information to eliminate threats, helping Android users always be one step ahead of cybercriminals.
Google has chosen ESSET for its proven experience in detecting malware in the Google Play Store in recent years. Rarely disclosing banking Trojans, spyware and ransomware, ESET helped identify some of the most sophisticated threats on Android devices. As part of the collaboration, the ESET research teams will focus on analyzing all applications and help protect Google Play Store users.
ESET will inform Google of its conclusions about applications it detects as malicious, potentially harmful or unwanted, before the applications are uploaded to the Google Play Store.
About 40% of ESET employees are engaged in research and development to keep ESET users around the world safe from the latest and advanced cyber threats. Counting more than 30 years of cyber security innovation, ESSET adopts a multilevel approach to cyber security, protecting over 110 millions of users in 200 countries and regions worldwide. ESSET regularly publishes the results of its WeLiveSecurity Threat Investigations.
Dave Kleidenmacher, head of Android security and privacy at Google, said:
For years, Google has been working extensively with members of the cyber security community to protect both businesses and consumers online, with today's news being the latest example of this collaboration. Working with a valued member of the cybersecurity industry, such as ESET, will enhance the protection of the Google Play ecosystem. We look forward to seeing what our teams can do together.
