A revolution in the electric vehicle sector is about to take place in the near future. Some engineers have discovered a new method that allows it recharging electric cars in just 10 minutes. This is a new one battery.
Currently, it takes more than an hour to fully recharge the electric vehicles. The original model Tesla S needed 75 minutes to fully charge.
The new effective way of charging was discovered by them researchers of the University of Pennsylvania. Investigators developed a lithium-ion battery, which can enable an electric car travel 200 to 300 miles with just 10 minutes of charge.
“In addition to fast charging, this design allows us to limit the exposure time of the battery to the increased charge temperature, thus providing great duration said Chao-Yang Wang, senior engineer at University from Pennsylvania who participated in the project.
"The key is to make the fast heating. Otherwise, the battery will remain at high temperatures for a long time, causing severe degradation… The 10-minute charge will be possible in the near future and is necessary for electric vehicles ".
Researchers argue that the charging process can be so fast without damaging the battery. With the news data up to 2.500 charge cycles will be allowed.
The new revolutionary way of charging is revealed just a few weeks after the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2019 was awarded to the inventors of the first lithium-ion battery.
Three great researchers, John Goodenough, Stanley Whittingham, and Akira Yoshino joined forces to create the first commercially viable lithium-ion battery, produced by 1985. Now, these batteries are used everywhere, at cell phones, portable computers, cars etc.
Researchers are constantly working for improve charging time. After a significant reduction from 75 to 10 minutes, The experts hope to be able to fully charge in just 5 minutes.
"This will require extremely stable electrolytes and active materials beyond the self-heating structure we have already invented."
