Trend Micro Incorporated, one of the most important Companies in the field of cyber security, published a report on the attacks in the first half of 2019 and showed that there was a large increase in fileless attacks. Compared to the first half of 2018, these attacks increased 265%.
These findings are in line with the predictions made by researchers by Trend Micro already last year. The malicious hackers develop their methods and target more and more businesses and environments that will bring them more profits.
"OR complexity and μυστικότητα its his name "cybersecurity game "nowadays, as technology and criminal activities become more 'connected' and more 'intelligent'", said a Trend Micro researcher. "From the attackers, we have seen deliberate, targeted and cunning attacks that exploit people, processes and technology. On the business side, however, digital transformation and increased use of the cloud are expanding the scope where hackers can attack. For this reason, the businesses need a partner who combines it human know-how with advanced security technologies to better detect, correlate, respond to threats and repair damage. "
As mentioned above, the first half of 2019 saw a significant increase in fileless attacks. At the same time, more threats have emerged that are not detected by traditional filters security, as they can be run in the memory of a system, in the registry, or exploit legitimate tools. A large increase (136%) was also recorded exploit kits.
According to research, malware, which was more easily detected by 2019, was Cryptomining malware. The attackers mainly targeted servers and in cloud environments. It was also found that attacks on routers increased by 64% compared to the first half of 2018, confirming once again the researchers' forecasts.
Another threat increased by 319% from the second half of 2018, they are electronic blackmail. The corporate violations e-mail increased by 52% while attacks ransomware by 77%.
Trend Micro managed to stop more than 26,8 billions of threats in the first half of 2019, that is, 6 billions more than in the first half of 2018. A huge percentage (91%) of these threats were exploited by victims' emails.
Limiting and tackling these advanced threats requires smart defense that will be able to correlate data from portals, networks, servers and endpoints so that it can better detect and prevent attacks.
