What is an SSL certificate and why is it vital to each site?

Wondering if the site do you need an SSL certificate? The answer is positive, but you may still be wondering what an SSL certificate is.

What is SSL?

SSL is the initials of Secure Sockets Layer. Most people are reasonably unfamiliar with these words, but they are very important to them safety of websites.

Whenever you enter a site or change a website, browser and browser server of the site communicate with each other. The browser requires information and if everything is working properly, the server will provide the required information to Browser. However, without any kind of SSL protocol, communication between the browser and the server may be blocked or leaked sensitive data from it. This is because the exchange of information between the browser and the server is not encrypted, hence a capable one hacker Discovering your connection can easily steal your data.

Therefore, an SSL certificate is the one that certifies the communication between the browser and the site's server to indicate that the browser's request is safe and can not be hindered (at least not easily).

But why do we need an SSL certificate?

In fact, you do not have to have an SSL certificate. However, if you are interested in the security of your website and its content, let alone your business, then you should think about getting one. Even if your site does not deal with any kind of sensitive data, hackers want to access it, and you do not have extremely important information on your site, it will not prevent them.

Another reason is that after updating Google Chrome in July of 2018, sites that do not have an SSL certificate are labeled "Not safe" instead of having the padlock icon to the left of the URL. Sure, this may not be particularly worrying if there are no sensitive data exchanges or payment options on your site, but users may start questioning the legitimacy of the owner and the site itself.

In addition, one website which does not have an SSL certificate, scores lower than Google through search algorithms (SEO). It is therefore important that you use such a certificate.

How can I get such a certificate?

Initially, you can buy one. Its price ranges from $ 30 to a few hundred dollars. However, it is preferable to follow some simple lessons to help you integrate it yourself on your site, which you can easily find with a YouTube search.
