Pascal GeForce GTX cards will have ray tracing thanks to driver update

tracingPascal GeForce GTX card users, eagerly awaiting new Nvidia offers on ray tracing, will get a first taste thanks to the driver update in April.

Nvidia Reported that its cards, in addition to good performance and memory will now be able to activate ray tracing. However, not all cards will be able to do so. The models that will receive this update are Titan XP, Titan X, GTX 1080 and 1070, GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660 as well as Titan V

However, activating ray tracing in a game or application is made possible by using DirectX Raytracing.

"Users of GeForce RTX cards will have up to 2-3 times faster performance [than GTX] thanks to the special RT cores on their GPUs, allowing for higher quality settings," the company said.

"The RT cores in GPU GeForce RTX provide a specialist hardware allowing acceleration of ray tracing. "

Unity and Unreal collaborate with Nvidia for ray tracing capabilities for popular frameworks. During the GTC conference on Monday, Nvidia and Unity showed real-time ray tracing on a BMW 8 series model.

This feature enables designers to spot dangerous reflections or blind spots in the design of a vehicle.

"By the arrival of Nvidia RTX, real-time ray tracking was just a thought. Now, millions of developers working at Unity can achieve stunning graphics at lightning speed, "said Bob Pette, vice president of Nvidia.
