Google degrades apps that request SMS and call access

2019 comes with greater data control for users.

Privacy concerns continue as we move on to the new year.

Η Google will begin to remove its applications Play Store collecting data from users' SMS and calls in the coming weeks, according to a post on Monday.

Posting serves as a reminder of the developer's new policy for developers, restricting access to SMS and calls, as it seeks to improve user control over their own data.

Google's new restriction was first announced last October, giving developers 90 days to consider licensing requests, as privacy concerns were increased due to the numerous data spill scandals last year, including Facebook Cambridge Analytica saga.

Facebook also referred to developers last week using the codeless tool for their Android apps to make changes that are consistent with Google's new policy.

Developers can submit a license form to allow further scrutiny by Google, but they were strictly compliant, having rejected applications from developers, according to Android Police.
