Smartphone application detects signs of depression before the patient

applicationAccording to the World Health Organization, mental illness affects one in four people. Numbers show how serious the problem is and that anyone can become a victim of psychological problems like depression or anxiety.

This is the reason why a start up business, called Mindstrong Health from Palo Alto, California, tries to help people examine their psyche in the smartest way - creating an application for smartphone!

It does not matter who we are or where we are, as smartphones are now the common routine of most people around the world. And now they can be used to monitor the emotional health of people by analyzing their use.

When installing, the Mindstrong application monitors the interaction of the user with his phone through typing speed, scrolling, and fingerprinting on the screen when other applications are used, and then this pattern is analyzed.

For example, memory problems may be related to how quickly you type, the type of errors you make during typing, the character deletion frequency and the scrolling speed.

But first of all, Mindstrong defines your basic behavior by learning how you use your device and combining various parameters to form general features.

To ensure that the collected data remains secure, they are encrypted and analyzed remotely by mechanical learning algorithms. The final results and analysis are then shared among patients and mental health experts.

Mindstrong has already tested application in controlled clinical sessions. Now the app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
