Users will now be able to search for information from photos taken on objects and locations. Visual Search will bring information from building pictures, clothes, plants, etc.
Microsoft's Visual Search Tool is based on Bing Intelligent Search, which uses artificial intelligence to provide information from various sources on the internet to produce accurate results.
The tool can be used by Android Launcher for Android, Bing Search Engine for iOS, and Edge Browsing for iOS and Android.
Designed on its lines Google Lens, which started last year, this tool is not as effective. Can not locate Barcodes and QR codes on its own. You have to click on a button to scan barcodes, which is not very convenient for a visual search tool. In addition, Google Lens also allows users to scan and copy text from images using OCR technology.
Microsoft is not just competing with Google in the field of visual search. Samsung's Bixby Vision is also a powerful competitor that is fairly accurate and displays search results in just a few seconds.
Much work has to be done to become effective and outperform its competitors, but it is not a bad tool for the beginning.
