The South Wales Police Department managed to convict 11 drug dealers through the fingerprints collected from a WhatsApp photo.
In the investigations, police captured and examined a phone used by one of the suspects and discovered a photo sent to WhatsApp and showing a male hand holding ecstasy tablets.
The police officers then compared the fingerprint to the photo with one of the suspects, seeing that he was the same person. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of ten more guilty.
After carefully inspecting the phone, which apparently is not password protected, the police identified many messages that proved the user's involvement in the sale of drugs.
The South Wales police argue that examining evidence on a mobile device is one of the most effective methods of conducting an investigation.
And while looking at a mobile device's data is an important help for researchers, it is only possible when the devices are not encrypted. Password protected devices are causing concern in the United States as the FBI he can not get the information he needs.
