Most of us have heard The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, ExtraTorrent, Torrentz and many more and maybe we've also used them to download movies or TV series, music, games, etc. But how many of us know what exactly they are?
To understand this, we must first understand what "BitTorrent" is. BitTorrent (also known as torrents) is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol that is used to distribute large amounts of data and electronic files over the Internet, such as video or digital audio files containing songs. . In other words, BitTorrent is a file transfer protocol that works to split large shared files into smaller pieces. The Peer-to-Peer Network (P2P), mentioned above, is created when two or more computers are connected and share resources without having to go through a separate server.
The programs you use to download files via the BitTorrent protocol are called BitTorrent clients. BitTorrent can be used to reduce the effect of large file distribution on the server and on the network. The uniqueness of torrenting is that it allows you to download the original file from the original source as well as from other users, which in turn makes the whole process smooth, fast and streamlined. For example, if you download your favorite movie through a torrent, not only download the entire file from the source but also other torrent users.
How do Torrent clients work when transferring files from one system to another?
UTorrent, BitLord, Vuze and more are torrent clients that allow you to download files through the BitTorrent network. A torrent client searches for files from other sources and downloads them to your smartphone or computer. Once you select one of the above torrents, you must add the torrent file to your BitTorrent client and save it to the drive you want to download the files.
Difference between seeds, peers and leechers
If you are a Torrent user, you will have seen the terms "Seeds", "Peers" and "Leechers" when downloading Torrents. Seed is a person who has a torrent client file open (let's say the same file you are trying to download) and the only difference between you and him is that he has already downloaded the entire file and now shares it with others but does not download any of his file from others.
Leechers are the ones who download and load a file at the same time. If a user starts to share a file that already has and downloads files that other users have already uploaded or are in the process of uploading, then it becomes leecher. The loading and downloading process continues simultaneously.
Peer is someone who downloads and uploads a file to the group. Files are downloaded. When another user downloads some tracks, the peer automatically starts to load them. A file will be uploaded faster if more people are involved.
Is downloading files via Torrents legal?
Anything you download from the internet, whether it's movies, TV series, sounds or games, is actually illegal unless you pay for it. Similarly, if you share copyrighted content with others, it is also illegal. While the programs or technologies behind file sharing are not illegal, the data they share is perhaps illegal. Using BitTorrent or other file sharing programs to download a trailer, a software update, a game demo is legal. However, using the same program to download a new song or a movie still played in cinemas is considered illegal.
