openSUSE Leap 42.2 New stable version

The openSUSE Project announced the overall availability of the openSUSE Leap 42.2 operating system.

Essentially it is a Service Pack, the second important update for openSUSE Leap 42 of an open-source and free distribution. OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 is in progress in the last six months. The update brings many new features to openSUSE, some of which users of the rolling Tumbleweed have already.

In this version, openSUSE Project chose to use the Linux 4.4 long-term support core, providing users with a safer, more reliable and more stable platform that can easily be installed in too many production environments, including but not limited to in cloud infrastructures, virtual machines, and organizations.openSUSE Leap 42.2

What's new with openSUSE Leap 42.2:

Among the new packages and technologies included in openSUSE Leap 42.2, it is worth mentioning Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), a Mixed Data Plane Development Kit with Open vSwitch for faster packet processing, a large number of YaST improvements (Yet another Setup Tool ), the new Prelude Security Information & Event Management (SIEM), the new Btrfs to be more helpful in Snapper, and the NVDIMM (Non-Volatile Dual Inline Memory Module) as well as OmniPATH support.

Also updated: GNOME 3.20 and KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS, and LXQt 0.11.0 work environments. Also available are Xfce, MATE, Cinnamon or Enlightenment desktops.
Additionally: Qt 5.6, GTK + 3.20, Python 2.7, 2.1, 5.18, 6.1.1, 5.3.1, 4.8.5, 3.8.0, 3.5, 1.0.2, CMEX 7.2, OpenSSL2x, 2.0xNUMX and Glibc 2.22.

Applications such as QEMU 2.6.1 and VirtualBox 5.0.24 come as virtualisation solutions, 4.4.2, MySQL 5.1.35, LibreOffice 5.2, and KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 with the addition of add-on libraries for Qt 5.

The new version of openSUSE Leap supports LXC and Docker-based Linux containers, provides mature support for ARMv7 and AArch64 (ARM64) platforms and supports virtualization insertions via KVM.
